FOSTER FARMS – A CITY OF PORTERVILLE OUTSTANDING BUSINESS HONOREE The City of Porterville is pleased to announce Foster Farms as an Outstanding Business Honoree. Foster Farms is a family owned and operated business that has been in operation since 1939. In 1999 Foster Farms selected Porterville to be home to their new production facility and announced their plans to remodel the former Pope and Talbot facility for their poultry production needs. Foster Farms invested over $20 million in their Porterville facility creating numerous construction jobs in the community. Their updated processing facility now spans 85,000 square feet with an onsite wastewater treatment facility to protect the environment. Foster Farms originally opened their Porterville location with 50 employees with a goal of growing their workforce to 300 employees. The success of the facility has led Foster Farms to exceed their original goal 300 employees and they now employ 466 individuals from the community and use local staffing agencies to bring on additional temporary staff on a regular basis. In a time when many businesses are downsizing, Foster Farms continues to grow and support the community. At the Porterville Foster Farms facility, several products are produced including mini corn dogs, chicken nuggets, chicken patties, popcorn chicken, chicken breast strips, and various styles of chicken wings. They do not only produce several value-added products, but they produce them in tremendous numbers. The Foster Farms facility produces between 1.7 and 2.0 million pounds of product each week. This level of production does not go unnoticed. This facility has won numerous awards including being recognized as a BRC Certified food producer and being awarded the Gold Certificate for Silliker Food and Safety award.
